Molas are crafts created by the Kuna indians in the San Blas islands located in the Colombo-Panamenian border. This art has been transmitted through the centuries from grandmothers to granddaughters. An avid collector of molas can easily identify the priciest pieces, they are usually very elaborated molas, probably made by a grandmother. The molas flood of color are processed by taking several layers of fabric, doing designs and cutting them in the desired color. The cutting and stitching is all done by hand. The pictures represent scenes of the natives’ daily lives, dreams, history and mythology. The women use the molas as part of their traditional clothes.
